Half-Hidden Data

Question: Why is my data partially hidden when I view it in a spreadsheet such as Microsoft Excel? I can't see the whole address or phone number; I can only see the first part of it.

Answer:
When you first open your list file, by default all MS Excel columns are the same width. The data is wider than the columns are, so the spreadsheet can't display it properly. It sometimes displays funny-looking phone numbers because it's using scientific notation to shorten the display.

Solution:

In order to properly see the data, you need to widen the columns to fit the information. In MS Excel:

  1. Select the colunms to widen, by clicking the letters at the top of each column.
Hold down Ctrl or Shift to select multiple columns, or use Ctrl+A to Select All.
  2. Click Format/Column/Auto Fit Selection.

Now the columns show you the complete data.
